Project Overview: Worldbuilding
Abandoned Village
Project Details:
Solo Project - Level Design
Made in Unity for class Advanced Seminar: World Building - September-November 2021
Description:
Unity3D project focused on Level Design that could be used tell a narrative story through the placement of
objects in the world and the layout of landmarks. The 3 main components of the level include a
mansion, a wooded area that surrounds the front of the mansion, and a town at the base of the hill that leads up to the mansion.
Skill:
Level/World Design
Risks:
The biggest risk in this project was the intended scope of the area, originally being a fairly vast area for the player to explore.
Additionally, finding placeholder assets to use was something that presented a problem as conveying a story that I was unsure
the exact contents of became more difficult as more detail was added.
Fallback:
With the main risk being size of the area, downscaling the area accordingly was the easiest way to curb over scoping. For this project
the larger the area the better as there is more for the player to explore and find, but if there are areas with nothing for them to find it
is better to create a smaller area with more for the player to do.
Abandoned Village
The 3 main components of the level include a mansion, wooded area, and a town at the base of a hill that leads up to the mansion.
Collectibles - Books
Throughout the level the player can collect evidence books. The player has multiple points of interest to explore, and while exploring searches for these collectibles that tie the areas to getting with subtle environmental narrative.
Environment
The environment of the town itself is meant to make the player feel alone and give an eerie sense of isolation, like something bad has happened but the player must explore if they want to uncover any potential hints of story.
